The Next Steps

At present, the centre supports 53 children and employs nine local staff, who are doing a great job. The premises are rented, however, and the centre relies heavily on funds raised here in the UK to cover its costs every month. We are now looking to the next stage of the charity’s development, which we hope will result in a more self-sufficient and wide-reaching enterprise.

The New Day IT Training Centre

By purchasing a dedicated plot of land, we can remove the significant monthly outgoing of rent and create a purpose built centre that will accommodate up to 120 kids. On the same land, we plan to build an IT training centre that will offer internationally recognised qualifications to the local community, generating an income for NDCC and contributing towards our goal of self-sufficiency. Students from the Children’s Centre, too, will have the opportunity to develop their IT skills along with the extra English and maths tuition that they already receive, maximising their chances of a successful future upon completion of their schooling.

In order to make these plans a reality, we need to raise £109,000, and we will be striving over the coming months to achieve this target. From building materials and labour, to furniture, equipment and shipping, all costs must be covered and any donation, big or small, can help.

If you would like to be involved in this next, exciting step that NDCC is taking then take a look at the breakdown of funds needed.

We hope that you will consider this opportunity to help us expand, and to continue improving the quality of life of the community of Bahir Dar.
